In December of 2005 two very good friends started talking about the idea of a children's cooking school. Both friends had toddlers of their own and thought what great fun it would be to have them in a cooking class, since they both enjoyed cooking so much. After researching classes in Santa Cruz they discovered that no such class existed and decided to create one of their own.

In the creating of lil' Chefs, Jessica Cambell and Darrielle Tennenbaum relied on their backgrounds as teachers to help define their program. They both have a deep love for cooking and children and saw a natural draw towards offering lil' Chefs' classes. When deciding upon the curriculum they knew they wanted to incorporate their training as teachers and integrate multiple subjects.

After months of looking through countless recipes, children's books and hours on the computer, lil' Chefs opened their farmhouse doors to the community of Santa Cruz in May of 2006. Currently lil' Chefs host their classes out the country fresh home of Darrielle but hope to expand to a commercial location in the future. The two friends are loving  watching the children discover new foods and recipes and hope to be able to expand and offer more classes in the future.
